Literature 2 Music 4 letter word Structure Concept

4 Letter word Concept and Theory
( Chord Progressions with Text2Midi )

In this section I will discuss the theory of using 4 letter words to create structure within the text 2 midi composition.

4 letter words are ideal for creating chord structure with text 2 midi. The theory is based around the 4/4 time signature you use a single 4 letter word per measure.

Example 1:

| fish | food |=Text

| a.d.g.c |a.c.c.f |= Midi Conversion

Now for creating chord structure using text 2 midi chart and knowing some basic music theory you will realize that by combining 4 letter words you can create chord progressions.

Basic chord progression chart in key of C

Major I = C maj = C.E.G
Minor ii = d min = d.f.a
Minor iii e min = e.g.b
Major IV = F maj = F.A.C
Major V = Gmaj = G.B.D
Minor vi = a min = a.c.e
Minor vii = b*= b.d.g

Below is a chart of each of the chords word list as you will notices that some of the words will cross over into other chords just like in music.

I chord =C.E.G

The letters found in the Major I chord are
A. H. O. V. C. J. Q. X. E. L. S. Z.

4 Letter example of Words found in the Major I Chord
( Love, have, case, sell, zoos, java, hole, sole )
Minor ii = D.F.A

The letters found in the Minor ii chord are
B. I. P. W. D. K. R. Y. F. T. M.

4 Letter example of Words found in the Minor ii Chord
( pimp, wimp, biff, drip, trip )

Minor iii = E.G.B

The Letters found in the Minor iii chord are
C. J. Q. X. E. L. S Z. G .N .U

4 Letter example of words found in Minor iii
( glue, clue, guns, nuns, lung, june sell )

Major IV = F.A.C

The letters found in the Major IV
D. K. R. Y. F. M. T. A. H. O. V

Example of 4 letter words in the Major IV
( Mart, Dart, toad, foam , food )

Major V = G.B.D

The Letters found in the Major V
E.L. S. Z. G. N. U. B. I. P. W

Example of words in the Major V
( pins, Gill, sins, bins, sing, will, guns, pups )

Minor vi = A.C.E

The Letters found in the Minor vi
F.M .T. A. H. O. V. C. J. Q .X

Example of words in the Minor vi
( math, matt,)

Min vii* =B.D.F

The letters found in the minor vii*
G. N. U. B. I. P. W. D. K. R. Y.

The words that are in the minor vii*
( wing, grin )

As you can see this is a small sample of words that you can use to create structure

Now I will show a few chord progression patterns using words..

Ex 1 |love|mart|love|guns|

Ex 2 |love|moat|hole|pups|

Both examples are based on a simple I-IV-V progression

The Software that’s Being Designed:

A Little history of why?

To give artist and performers a Easy way of creating and sharing music composed using this theory. As stated before above you can convert text 2 midi music for live instrumentation but in the digital releam it allows faster and more flexablie control of there compositions.

The first Program that I designed to was written ruby and is based on the midi work done by Jim Menard and the examples from the Rails Cookbook by O’Reily books

The method in which the text is converted was written by me in early of this year
In the hopes to start building a new concept in experimental Music and Abstract Composition

I hope that this article opens the door more for all that are interested in experimenting and composing text 2 midi Music

Thank you and Enjoy
